In Let It Die Here, Linda Perry Dances With Her Demons
We spoke with filmmaker Don Hardy about what he hopes audiences will glean from Linda Perry’s life and legacy.

Linda Perry is one of the most outspoken and recognizable artists of the past 30 years. The hat, tattoos, and massive hit single “What's Up” with her band 4 Non-Blondes made her an icon. But in the decades since that song topped the charts, Linda has reinvented herself as a songwriter and producer penning hit-after-hit for artists like Dolly Parton, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, Pink and others.
While the story of Linda’s career and craft is extraordinary, this film is about much more. Let It Die Here is an intimate look at a vulnerable and courageous woman as she navigates life-altering personal circumstances amidst gnawing career decisions. Linda‘s past and present collide as she struggles to answer the big questions she can no longer avoid: Who am I? Am I loved? What’s my purpose? What will I leave behind?

Don Hardy is an award-winning filmmaker who recently completed a feature documentary, Citizen Penn, that tells the story of the birth and growth of Sean Penn’s aid organization, J/P HRO, after a catastrophic earthquake shook Haiti in 2010. Citizen Penn premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2020 and debuted on Discovery+ in May 2021.
Don also recently completed production on the third season of The Way Home, a short-form documentary series he created that examines the homelessness epidemic in the United States. The first two seasons are available on Amazon, Apple, and Google. The third season premiered in the fall of 2023.
In early 2020, Don wrapped the first season of a documentary series for Disney+ called Pick of the Litter, which follows a group of puppies on their quest to become guide dogs for people who are blind. The series is based on the documentary film of the same name that he produced and directed in 2018. IFC Films/Sundance Selects purchased the film, which premiered in theaters in August 2018.
He also served as executive producer and showrunner for the Disney+ series and directed several episodes.
In 2018 and 2019, Don was selected to participate in the American Film Showcase, traveling as a US Envoy with the State Department as a part of this prestigious film diplomacy program.
Throughout his career, Don has made films about several fascinating subjects – wrongful conviction (Witch Hunt), global terrorism (Love Hate Love), chemicals and their effects on human health (The Human Experiment), and avant-garde musicians (Theory of Obscurity). His films are often very personal and relatable while illuminating social justice issues and inequities in our world.
Don’s films have premiered at major film festivals and have been distributed in theaters, television, and streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Discovery+, HBO, and Amazon.
Before jumping into filmmaking, Don was a journalist for NBC, ABC, and FOX affiliates in New York, Florida, and California. He has won numerous awards for his films, photography, and editing, including major film festival awards from Cinequest, Woods Hole Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, and Sonoma International Film Festival. Over the years, Don has also been awarded six regional Emmys.
